Kaileigh Newman

Aldine ISD
Director of Visual Arts

Kaileigh Newman is the Director of Visual Arts for Aldine ISD. She has 11 years of experience in education, all of those years served in Aldine ISD.  A moment that changed how I viewed art and literacy is when I could combine the two contents in my art classroom and see the impact and confidence that grew from students writing and speaking about the art they created. Two books that changed the way I approach literacy in the arts are The Art of Comprehension by Trevor Bryan, and The Knowledge Gap, by Natalie Wexler. As the Director of Visual Arts, I look for strategies and support to assist art educators to our artists to build language and oracy through the artmaking process. Art students create visual narratives and have so much to say, let's give them to tools to say it!
