The Science of Reading provides crucial ingredients for educational equity, and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies are essential to fostering justice in our literacy classrooms and beyond. Yet so often, the literacy discourse seems to treat these ways of thinking about instruction as competing priorities, or silo them in separate conversations. So what does it look like to weave these research bases together in our instruction, with our students? How can the science of reading and culturally sustaining, affirming approaches work in synergy with each other? Join classroom educators and literacy leaders for this important discussion.
