Despite their significant potential, many English learners have difficulty meeting grade-level expectations in reading and content-area classes. The presenter will describe a few evidence-based literacy practices that can be integrated during social studies instruction. These practices benefit all middle school students but are particularly critical to the development of English learners. Recommendations for teachers and school leaders looking to move the needle for secondary English learners will be discussed.
