Program Director for Multilingual Curriculum

Angela Cala Mendez, M.Ed., is Program Director for Multilingual Curriculum in Aldine ISD. Her career in education spans over twenty-one years in which she has specialized in Bilingual and ESL education. She currently leads the One-Way Dual Language program in Aldine ISD. 

As an experienced educator, she has served in multiple roles in Texas school districts such as primary and elementary bilingual teacher, bilingual specialist, campus administrator, and district program director. During the last couple of years, Angela has been leading the process of changing bilingual programs in her district from transitional to dual language. She has developed structures and systems that support emergent bilinguals in the process of becoming biliterate.

In her current role, as program director, Angela oversees the implementation of the one-way dual language program in her district providing support and developing professional development for bilingual teachers, instructional specialists, district literacy coaches and literacy leaders. She also creates curriculum documents aligned with the programs used for instruction in English and in Spanish promoting biliteracy in education.  

Angela also participates actively in Latinx organizations and networks to promote leadership development and advancement for Latino educators. She has always been an advocate for the rights of bilingual students in the Houston area and a leader that promotes family inclusion and involvement through the empowerment of latino families.
